With the growing concern this country over the increase crime, particularly among young people, professionals a wide variety of disciplines are seeking more effective means of treat ing the problem. There appears to be particular emphasis placed on the two ends of delinquency, so to speak ? prevention and control or treatment?while legal education focuses on what comes in between, that is, the judicial proceeding. It is sug gested here that the parent-child relationship is crucial at all of these points and the purpose of this paper will be to examine the legal implications of this relationship. The discussion will include statements of the leading psycho-sociological theories on the parent/home contribution to developing a climate for delinquency a particular child; the role of the parent during the arrest, and adjudication and dispositional phases of the judicial proceeding, family treatment, and ?with by far the greater emphasis for purposes of this paper ?an examination of how pare
