Yang Xianyi and David Hawkes' translation versions of Hongloumeng are superior to all others, but their translation styles are quite different. This essay try to make their translation style and the cream of Hongloumeng clear to readers by comparing two versions of Zanghuayin (a poem in Hongloumeng). Yang's version pay more attention to the reappearance of the original style and poetic imagery while Hawkes' version stresses on the beauty of sound, rhyme and form.
