TL;DRAbstract
The equations of ionization and thermal equilibrium are solved as a function of radius for a dense (n/sub H/ = 1000, 5000 cm/sup-3/) spherical homogeneous interstellar gas cloud. It is found that silicon is the most abundant ionized component in regions where carbon is neutral. Temperatures are in the range 5 to l5 deg K. The relationship of the models to carbon recombination line observations is discussed. (auth)
