The manufacturing industry has become increasingly competitive with demands of the market changing due to reduced product lifecycles, increased product complexity, and greater customer demands with regard to quality, after sales support and product individualisation.Advancements in technology provide a tool for manufacturing companies to meet the demands of this changing environment and as such technology usage has become an integral part of the operation of many manufacturing businesses in today’s world. The Queensland Government Department of State Development (2003) has stated that maintaining a globally competitive, sustainable and profitable manufacturing base is one of its top priorities, part of this is maintaining pace with technology changes and advancements in the manufacturing industry.
