TL;DRAbstract
The zebrafish has recently emerged as a powerful model for study of the genetics and molecular biology of vertebrate development. Zebrafish reach sexual maturity in ∼2-3 mo, and produce hundreds of embryos in weekly intervals. The embryos develop rapidly and organogenesis occurs within the first 2 d of development in transparent bodies. The availability of thousands of chemically induced mutations (,), as well as the results of insertional mutagenesis studies (, , , ), provide valuable resources to study genetics of vertebrate development.
