Change in Heat Stress Days from Present to Future Climate

TL;DRAbstract

Heat stress is one of the leading causes of death compared to all weather and natural disasters that occur in the world. Studying how the climate will change in the next few decades is a must if humans are to adapt to the changing climate. With greenhouse gases rising due to the use of fossil fuels, the temperatures will be increasing in the next few decades, but by how much is the question that needs to be answered. Apparent temperature, an index developed to measure heat stress in humans, is used. Apparent temperature is derived from computer simulations to look at present and future climate. This study determined how many heat stress days and heat stress degree days to expect. The study found that the amount and severity of heat stress will increase in the next few decades as the climate becomes more hot and humid.
