This document contains provisions of the South African Human Tissue Act of 1983, as amended in 1984, relating to artificial insemination and gonads. After defining "artificial insemination of a person," "gamete," and "gonad," this Act forbids the transplantation of a gonad from a deceased or living person into a living person for the purpose of procreation. Gametes from living persons are to be transplanted into another person only in accordance with a code of practice published by the Department of Health and Welfare. The Act sets the penalty of a fine or imprisonment or both for those convicted of offenses to this Act.
