TL;DRAbstract

Founded in 1472, with over 45000 students today, the University of Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität) is one of the largest and oldest universities in Germany. Currently the university offers 123 different degree programmes of which only Computer Science (Informatics) is part of the engineering discipline. Consequently, the computer science degree focuses heavily on building bridges between computer science and other disciplines and has recently led to the introduction of a new, multi-disciplinary study programme called “Medien-informatik” (Media Informatics). The following briefly overviews the programme and experiences of the first students enrolled in the Media Informatics programme during the 2001/2002 winter term.
