TL;DRAbstract

The paper investigates the origin of the "anomalous" use of the suffix -ien in the French terminology of anatomy, which sets this language apart from other Romance languages. The use of this suffix turns out to have been one of several strategies used to adapt Latin adjectives in -eus and -ius.
