Adding up the cost of teaching mathematics

Gill Hek-1994-02-23-Nursing Standard
13

TL;DRAbstract

Nurses' ability to calculate accurately is important in their work. Recent evidence, however, has suggested that their mathematical skills are poor, and nurse teachers spend considerable amounts of time in remedial teaching of these skills. The authors describe the efforts of a working group that was set up to undertake a survey of colleges and examine how calculation testing of student nurses is carried out. As part of this initiative, a pilot study was also conducted to develop a calculations test that could be used in the process of selecting student nurses for pre-registration courses.
