TL;DRAbstract

Teachers seek to assist their students with learning difficulties, in fact all students, in the mosteffective manner to facilitate the best possible learning experiences during classroom activities. Thisis in accordance with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s[UNESCO] call for equality in education for all students within the mainstream context. Teachersare asked to “… rise to the challenge and work to ensure that Education for All effectively meansFOR ALL, particularly those who are most vulnerable and most in need” (UNESCO, 1994, p. iv,2001). In the Australian context, the government of the state of Queensland has responded toUNESCO’s call for support of diversity in the mainstream classroom by promoting an inclusiveapproach to learning, as documented in the Pre-school to Year10 syllabuses for Queensland schools.These documents encompass all curriculum areas with recommendations for group and peer workwithin inclusive settings.
