Statistical Analysis of Buses Delay for Signalized Control Intersection

TL;DRAbstract

By collecting the bus delay time data at signalized intersection and using the analysis methods of probability and statistics, this paper studies the probability distribution of bus delay through the signalized intersection. Three distribution functions: GaussAmp, Poisson and LogNormal are chosen to fit the histograms of statistics and check the accuracy of the fitting by χ2 method. The results show that the randomness of queuing time of buses at the intersection gives rise to an indistinct distribution pattern of bus delay through signalized intersections. GaussAmp distribution has the best fitting precision of the delay distribution for those buses that pass the intersection without any stopover at peak and off-peak time, while the delay time for those buses that pass the intersection with stopover at peak time behaves according to LogNormal distribution.
