Cage Units and Procedures Designed for the Testing of Toxic Rodent Tracking Powders

TL;DRAbstract

A versatile unit was designed for testing the efficacy of toxic tracking powders in controlling commensal rodents. The test units are relatively simple modifications of commercially available cages commonly used for laboratory rats and mice. Two modified cages are connected by a tunnel which, depending on test design, allows the test animal free access to the tracking powder. Racks of test units permit a wide variety of tracking powders to be tested on species ranging from wild house mice to wild Norway and roof rats. The emphasis is placed on the design and construction of the test cage units with only a brief account of test methods provided.
