A fear of the High Street or just a 'lazy' culture: the High Street verses the shopping centre/mall, public verses private space.

TL;DRAbstract

It is said that in today's society, more than at any other time in the past, we are living life for its conveniences. One subject very much within this, is the issue of walking or taking the car, increasingly it is the latter of these two options, irrespective of distance or the task at hand. At the same time a new phenomena has appeared in the last few decades, the 'fear of crime', disregarding actual levels of crime, in most respect, individuals and groups are now finding themselves visiting certain areas, due to a newly inherent fear of 'others'. 
\nThis study is designed to look at both, the factors of 'laziness' and 'fear' of crime and 'others', in relation to the use of either public or private spaces, in this case retail locations.
