It is especially focusing on the relationship between food and class. It discusses how the complex English class system still influences people's choices of food and eating habits. It analyses how food operates as a source of status and why some food items have an invisible class label.

It also looks at the way the contemporary media deals with the notion of class structures in the United Kingdom.
