The interest of food is reaching its peak and it has become a popular subject across the media and this dissertation examines the media's role in English food habits. It is especially focusing on the relationship between food and class. It discusses how the complex English class system still influences people's choices of food and eating habits. It analyses how food operates as a source of status and why some food items have an invisible class label. \nThis dissertation outlines the problems between class structures and food consumption. It also looks at the way the contemporary media deals with the notion of class structures in the United Kingdom. This study looks at English class structures in order to analyse how food and media operates in this complex system. Firstly, the study gives an overview of the Post-War English class system to link that with the contemporary food consumption. Then it considers the role of television cookery programmes by focusing on two male chefs Jamie
