Cognitive Effects in Information Seeking and Retrieval

3

TL;DRAbstract

Lack of theoretical foundation in the design and develop-ment of interactive information retrieval (IIR) systems has been the major limitation in the field. Application of infor-mation seeking theories and models has also been limited in IIR. This paper is concerned with an approach to facilitate theoretical development in IIR based on cognitive effects, which can be considered in the evaluation of information seeking and retrieval (IS&R) research. In particular, I argue that looking at an “effect ” in information seeking might fa-cilitate our communication on IS&R phenomena and theory building in IIR. 1.
