Complete-tree concept: 1964-1974
TL;DRAbstract
In the 10 years since the Complete-Tree Concept was first publicly presented, there has been considerable research on both the biological and technological aspects of the concept; some investigators have worked hard to integrate the two aspects, and some mechanized harvesting equipment has been developed that is now in commercial use. Due to the shortage of woods, labor and inclement weather, manufacturers are being encouraged to develop mechanized equipment for harvesting. Recognition of increased yields per acre and reduced costs by such equipment is encouraging the development of complete-tree harvesters. Such equipment must be matched with ecologically sound forest management practices to insure the perpetual health and well being of our forests.
