TL;DRAbstract
Abstract : An experimental study of shock waves produced in a T-tube and a theoretical study of electron-ion reaction rates are summarized. Precursor ionization in the T-tube was observed, but no conclusive evidence concerning the source of the ionization was obtained. The study of electron-ion reaction rates resulted in a detailed theory for the rate of three body electron-ion recombination and radiative decay in monatomic gases. Comparison of this theory with published measurements in helium, argon, mercury, and cesium shows very good agreement.
