University teacher training models and trends

TL;DRAbstract

This article discusses the theoretical models and trends underlying university teacher education programs and proposes to define systemic approaches at the supra-university level, in order to contribute to professionalizing the role of teachers and improve the quality of higher education. This paper aims to describe the models, trace trends and suggest improvements in teacher training after the implementation of the Bologna process. To do so, it reviews the literature and discusses new perspectives from a critical reflection.
