Observations on the ionic composition of blue green algae growing in saline lagoons
TL;DRAbstract
In their monograph Brooks and Brooks \n(1947) have discussed the degree of permeability in blue-green algae which can \nwithstand relatively concentrated brines whose osmotic pressures are about 150 \natmospheres. They observe that these cells are permeable to water in both directions \nin response to the osmotic forces. But no quantitative data are given to \nsubstantiate the statement and to explain the various physiological changes taking \nplace in the algal cells under varying salinity conditions.
