TL;DRAbstract

Abstract Tooth diversity of palaearctic Arvicolidae seems to be not directly and strictly linked to the environmental characters of the range of relevant populations (according to an intraspecific approach) or species (according to an interspecific approach). A significant correlation was found with the minimal (not with the average) genetic distance, as estimator of evolutionary speciation time. Such correlation was not dependent from any linkage between genetic distance and quantitative similarity of dentary forms. As mainly non-adaptative, the studied characters can be substancially affected by time "entropic" consequences on isolated informational systems.
