The systematics and breeding system of Gelsemium (Loganiceae)

Robert Ornduff-1970-01-01-Journal of the Arnold Arboretum
48PDF

TL;DRAbstract

The genus is represented by one species in southeastern Asia, a second species in the southeastern United States, and a third species in the southeastern United States and the highlands of southern Mexico and Guatemala. This distribution pattern is similar to that which occurs in a number of other taxa of flowering plants. Although this disjunction dates back to the close of the Tertiary, Ge/semium has continued to maintain a relatively high degree of morphological and genetic homogeneity.
