TL;DRAbstract

The choice of the centers of the “hat functions” is not flexible enough. In the case of the wavelet method, a quadrature grid is needed. In the case of splines, the grid of centers is immediately connected to the grid of data, and we cannot use a sparser grid of centers due to the algorithm.
