The papers shows the interest of the bypasses road project in the North of the Milan region (from Malpensa airport to Bergamo), proposed in the mid Sixties in the Milan Inter-municipal Plan, and no more implemented, as regards to the territorial transformations in the area characterized by a complex social-economic system and by a different local settlement ambits : the North of Milan region This territory, included in five "province" (Milan, Como, Varese, Lecco and Bergamo) and about 100 towns, is characterized by a high density of the local firms that are transformeted this area and also the role of the bypasses road project. This infrastructure project is suspended between a more comprehensive regional design project and the attempt to solve the congestion, offering a tangential axe (east-west) in the radial-centric road scheme characterising the Milan area.
