The purpose of this study was to determine if there was any relationship between age and success for students arbitrarily placed i) college-preparatory Beginning Algebra on the basis of their ACT mathematics score. The study was conducted during Term I, 1985-1986, on the Soutn Campus of Broward Community College. A list of students placed in the course on the basis of their ACT mathematics score and course results was provided by the college registrar. A chi-square analysis was used to determine any significant dliference between success in the course and age (under 20 versus 20 or older).
