TL;DRAbstract

The collection of texts included in this book present the aims and results of the project entitled “Enhancement of citizens’ awareness for the formulation of air pollution control policies in three metropolitan areas of Latin America”, which was implemented by the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division, with support from the Government of Japan, over the period 2000-2002. The project focused on an area that is crucial for the success of plans for air pollution control: citizens’ awareness with regard to environmental issues and, in this specific case, air pollution. In this context it is appropriate to ask ourselves: What value do we place on citizens’ awareness about this problem?
