TL;DRAbstract

This Bachelor Thesis deals with theoretical and practical issues in translating English technical texts. The first part of the Thesis offers historical overview of translation in Czech lands. Second part of this Thesis deals with the practical issues of translating general versus technical texts by focusing mostly on terminology from the fields of financial and aviation industries. The third part of this Thesis presents an analysis of the translation issues, which emerged during the translation process from the source to target languages. The Czech translation of the Annual Report of American Continental Airlines (target language) has been compared with the English Report (source language) to shed light on issues that have arisen by the translation. Both these documents are enclosed in the appendices at the end of the Thesis together with the Glossary of selected economic and aviation terms.
