TL;DRAbstract

Obiedive. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of two ginger species extract, Zingiber officinale and Kaempferia galanga compare to acetaminophen, in osteoarhthritis (OA) of the knee patients. Methods. Fourty-six patiens with OA of the knee by the Altman 1991 criteria and grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 by the Kellgren-Lawrence criteria were enrolled in a randomized, double-blind, controlled study for 14-days. After washout period, the patients were received ginger extract or acetaminophen three times daily. The outcome variable were reduction in knee pain (on a visual analog scale / VAS) on resting, walking (10 m), sitting to standing, climbing up and down the stairs, pressing on the knee, and the improvement stiffness of the joint, the range of motion (ROM), diameter of the knee, Lequesne index. Statistic evaluated by student's t test . The adverse event were evaluated include simptoms and change of laboratory value. Efficacy and safety assesments were performed at baseline and after d
