TL;DRAbstract
The purpose of this thesis is to show that a conventional mouse and keyboard could be used to control more than one PC without suffering any drawbacks. In doing so, an understanding of the technical issues involved was developed along with an appreciation of the engineering design process. It demonstrates that bi-directional data flow that uses an unusual protocol can be manipulated just as easily as a more conventional data format. As a by-product of the design needed for this control, two different interfaces were developed. Firstly, an efficient method of converting the semi-synchronous AT and PS/2 protocols to a simpler format was produced. Secondly, an interface for a PC keyboard port was developed that allowed complete bi-directional data flow using a more conventional was designed.
