Implementierung einer Schreibintervention in den Offenen Jugendstrafvollzug

TL;DRAbstract

This study evaluated the effects of expressive writing about a traumatic event or one`s criminal offence, respectively in inmates of a juvenile prison. 60 imprisoned inmates (age 17 to 24) were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: They were asked to write for 20 minutes per day for 3 consecutive days about their deepest thoughts and fellings surrounding personal stressvul experiences (trauma condition), write about their former criminal offence (offence condition) or about a trival topic (control). Consisitent with previous studies on expressive writing the emotional conditions (trauma and offence) elicited more negative emotions as an immediate effect than the control condition. Participants in the trauma condition showed better conduct and a lower level of anger during detention subsequent to the intervention in comparison to the participants in the other conditions.
