This work proposes a discussion concerning the nature of existing relations between the environmental labelling programs and wood cutting production in Brazil, particularly concerning technologies of exploration in the Legal Amazon. On behalf of this, it is discussed the impact and the efficacy of the certification programs of sustainable forestry management, assuring the sustainability of the tropical forests and thus, the continuity of the wood cutting production. First of ali, there was a contextualization of the environmental quality concept, recovering the elements which throughout the eighties' were responsible to the accomplishment and spread out of this concept as a new factor capable of influencing as much the competitive standards of countries and enterprises as the international trade.
