TL;DRAbstract

This reflection seeks to focus on a number of the imperatives facing journalism educators at both an institutional level and at a discipline level. The intention is - in the tradition of good reflective practice (Shon 1995a) - to provide a number of points for action and reflection. National higher education policy, institutional epistemology, issues of teaching quality and the professionalisation of university teaching, the demands for research-led teaching, and online teaching, as well as student attitudes and perceptions, all impact on pedagogy in the field of study. After canvassing these issues, suggestions are offered for a way forward.
