Abstract: We present a spectral model of the emis-sion characteristics of quantum dot superluminescent diodes including the influence of residual facet re-flectivity. We analyze the transition from the ampli-fied spontaneous emission to lasing regime and the characteristics of multi-section devices with im-proved performance.
