Analysis of exploitation mine room instability in weak rocks

2

TL;DRAbstract

The case study is a northen Italy underground mine, in weak rocks, which is been mined using a new experimental room and pillar method. Failure phenomena which occurred during some of the room exploitation, have been examined in detail. The study is carried out with a detailed geostructural “in situ” surveying and laboratory tests for the rock mass characterization. On the basis of these results different numerical approches, including the key block analysis and the distinct element method, have been applied for the interpretation of the failure mechanism and for a preliminary study of the rock mass support.
