Realizing close, world-wide collaboration between customers, suppliers, and engineering partners in-creases risks. Applications enabling distributed collaboration can open a direct pipeline to the enter-prise?s most valuable information assets, presenting a tempting target for fraud, malicious hackers, and industrial espionage. Appropriate protections are prerequisite for doing business both for an enter-prise?s credibility with its stakeholders and its financial viability. But, from the security point of view, distributed collaboration is challenging. End-to-end security is needed. The realization of an enterprise security integration (ESI) framework provides appropriate solutions. ESI provides a common, enterprise-spanning security infrastructure. Web-based ESI provides possibilities for a secure but loosely coupling of enterprises. A unique proposition is, that it provides a solution for distributed user man-agreement.
