Theopolis Fair taught Latin American and global history for many years in La Salle University's History Department. In 1963, Fair received his bachelor’s degree from Fisk University, where he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his master’s degree from Columbia University in 1965 and his Ph.D. in history from Temple University in 1972. He served in the Senate of the national Phi Beta Kappa organization.
