TL;DRAbstract

Abstract : The United States does not have a National Missile Defense (NMD) system capable of protecting it from attack by Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Given the nature of the terrorist activities on 11 September 2001, is there less of a need for National Missile Defense, or is the need even stronger? This paper will look at National Missile Defense in the context of the program's history, todays new strategic environment, and the threat. It will assess the need for a defensive system and outline options for moving forward. It concludes with a recommended course of action.
