TL;DRAbstract

A method was developed for determining silver in solid samples by bremsstrahlung activation to produce Ag/sup 017m/ and Ag/sup 109m/. The gamma threshold for this excitation is less than 0.8 Mev, and the ( gamma ,n) reaction does not occur at less than 9 Mev. For all samples tested, the activation results were lower than the volumetric, probably owing to the fact that the correction for self-absorption was calculated for samples cortaining silver only. The only elements that appear likely to interfere in the determination of silver are selenium and hafnium. With a counter of low background, it should be possible to determine silver at the 0.1% level. (M.C.G.)
