TL;DRAbstract

This paper investigates and compares the supply chain structures and integrative practices of approximately two thousand firms from the four industrialized countries of the United States, Japan, Korea, and Australia. Each country can be considered a model or type of supply chain structure. Country differences in supply chain structures are identified which have substantial implications for transportation's successful contribution to total cost minimization and value enhancement. In general, Korea stresses internal organizational integration, Japan emphasizes external technical network integration, and the U.S. and Australia primarily employ external relational and behavioral integration.
