The increasing global interest in replacing electrochemical batteries with alternate technologies has prompted the recent developments of a number of commercially available hydrogen fuel cell technologies. These companies claim that their hydrogen fuel cells demonstrate higher capabilities than currently used battery technologies. The following report details a study into the feasibility of utilising currently available hydrogen fuel cell technologies in place of existing comparable battery technologies. An initial comparison between the technologies was provided in the literature review in Chapter 2. Following this, two applications were selected; small scale portable electronics charger and large scale electronics and home appliance power supply, and a number of commercially available hydrogen fuel cell and battery technologies were chosen for comparison.
