An investigation into the pressures responsible for development on flood plains: a case study of Lewes

The purpose of this research was to use the town of Lewes as a case study in order to investigate the national pressures responsible for development occurring on flood plain areas. The level of development taking place on flood plains, the type of property mainly situated in these areas and the effect flooding could have on property demand were also critically evaluated as part of this research.

\nIn order to collect information surrounding the background issues of the topic, a literature review was used to gather secondary data. As a means of collecting primary data, a postal questionnaire among the general public of Lewes was employed and several semi-structure interviews were conducted with professionals working within the subject area. These methods of data collection highlighted a decline in the level of development taking place on national flood plains in recent years, yet also found that past and future development in these areas was mainly focused towards residentia
