Report on First Results of ASDEX Upgrade Operation with the LYRA Divertor

R. Neu-1997-01-01-MPG.PuRe (Max Planck Society)

TL;DRAbstract

Preliminary results of the first two months of ASDEX Upgrade operation with the new Lyra divertor (DV-II) are presented and compared to those obtained with the previous divertor configuration (DV-I). Emphasis is placed on issues which, according to common knowledge, might be related to the edge/divertor geometry, in particular upper density limits, H mode characteristics, particle control and impurity behaviour. The experimental facts are complemented by B2-Eirene modelling results. Remarkable changes in core MHD behaviour are also included, but their origin is not yet clear. (orig.)
