Electron Microscopy of the Premartensitic State in a β–Ni–Zn–Cu Alloy
TL;DRAbstract
The premartensitic state of the β-Ni31Zn48Cu21 alloy was studied by electron microscopy. Anomalies of the electron diffraction patterns taken of the alloy were well explained by considering the 〈110〉β streaking and the existence of two types of small particles with orthorhombic (distorted hcp) and fct structures, respectively. A mottled structure with tweed-like contrast was also observed. The small particles of the low temperature martensite phase (fct), which were observed in thin foil specimens of the alloy above the Ms temperature, were considered to be related with the preceding phenomena of the martensitic transformation.
