INTRODUCTION: Sleep is an important function in the life of humans, affecting physical, psychological and social conditions. It is closely related to rhythmic processes and disorders. Therefore, alterations in the amount and quality of sleep can result in impairment of daily activities. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of the nocturnal use of the computer on quality of sleep in a group of adolescents. The following variation factors are compared: nocturnal computer use, school periods, symptoms of stress, number of persons sleeping in the room, gender differences, and age brackets with the quality of sleep and academic performance among high school students METHOD: This research was conducted in two High-Schools situated in the center of Alfenas, a city in southern Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The sample, for the initial investigation was composed of n=160 adolescents, predominantly females (65.63%), with ages ranging from 15 to 18 years. For this data
