A política de coesão europeia em Portugal : governança multinível assimétrica e impactos sobre o desenvolvimento (1994-2013)

TL;DRAbstract

The Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion Policy of the European Union accounts for about a third of the EU budget and is one of the most advanced international development policies. It was designed in order to cause socioeconomic impactsincluding reducing regional disparities and convergence of GDP per capita of the regions to the European averageand politicalincreasing democratic participation at the community level, in view of the debate on the democratic deficit of the European governance. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of European cohesion policy on the portuguese socioeconomic development process, and on the evolution of asymmetric Multilevel Governance in Portugal and in its regions. It highlighted major socioeconomic and political impacts at national and regional levels, even with the permanence of asymmetries in some regions.
