Background In Australia, the prevalence of chronic conditions such as heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes are higher in regional men than men in major city areas. Regular participation in physical activity has well documented health benefits and can play a significant role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases. The workplace has been identified as a context through which physical activity participation can be promoted, but little is known about workplace physical activity interventions for men, and specifically work related physical activity patterns and opportunities of inactive men in regional areas of Australia.
