SIX NEW SPECIES OF HAEMOGREGARINA FROM CHINESE TURTLES

TL;DRAbstract

Haemogregarines were first described in 1885 by Danilewsky. Up to now, more than 300 species of Haemogregarina have been described. The present study was carried out from 1984—1985. Six new species of Haemogregarina were found in four species of Chinese turtles: Trionyx sinensis, Chinemys reevesii, Cuora flavomarginata and Platysternon megacephalurn. The type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Hydrobiology, Academia Sinica, Wuhan (all measurements in μm).
