TL;DRAbstract

The power of poetry and the poetry of power. The case of Mauritanian society. Mauritanian oral literature is mostly represented by poetry. If poetry in classical Arabic (šiˤr) is limited to a minority, colloquial poetry is within everybody's reach. Besides the diversity of talents, the various genres is within in to significant distinctions. We'll try here to show the characteristics of every genre, from the specific poetry of the Griots (theydîn) to that of women (təbrâˤ).
