Attention department chairs: AP Spanish credit is a bonus, not a threat
TL;DRAbstract
In this article, the authors-three current or former department chairs who are familiar with the Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish program as current or former AP Spanish Development Committee members explain why it is in the best interests of college and university Spanish programs to carefully review their credit and placement policy for the AP Spanish language and literature exams. The authors describe the rationale for examining credit and placement policies, give a description of the nature of the exams themselves, provide resources for further investigation, and give details describing the AP placement and credit policies presently in use at three different universities. The article ends by presenting some challenges for department chairs and/or placement coordinators.
