Role of one-step radiolabeled Biotin SPECT/CT in the diagnosis of spinal infections

1258 Objectives: 111In-Biotin has been successfully employed for vertebral infection imaging. Because of the tracer biodistribution some drawbacks in focal abnormal localization represent a major limitation for the method. Moreover, without anatomic imaging the differentiation between bone and soft tissue involvement is very difficult. Aim of our study is to evaluate the diagnostic potential of SPECT/CT acquisition in patients with suspected vertebral and/or paravertebral infections. Methods: We studied 70 pts (M:F=30:40, median age 61.5±15.3 yr, range 31-86) with clinical suspicious of spinal infection (cervical n=4, dorsal n=14, lumbar n=43 and lumbo-sacral n=9); 45 pts with post-surgical infection and 25 with ematogenic spondilodisciitis. All pts were injected i.v. with 500 µg DTPA-Biotin labelled with 111In (110-130 MBq).
